The series was inspired by a book I was given in graduate school, “The Last Flowers of Manet” by Robert Gordon and Andrew Forge. Andrew Forge was the chair of the Yale fine art program and was a guest critic at the University of Pennsylvania. This book showed me the passion behind every moment. The flower series Manet painted were his last works, small paintings of fresh cut flowers in little vases that he painted while in his death bed. The richness of color and stroke, everything important to the image and nothing extra.
